Spain Seeking Information On UBS Accounts

Spain is the latest country to seek information from the Swiss tax authority about certain account holders at Swiss bank UBS.

The development was confirmed in a brief statement on UBS's Spanish website, which said that "Spanish tax authorities have filed a request for international administrative assistance in tax matters with the Swiss Federal Tax Administration."

The statement did not elaborate on the details of Spain's request, such as the number of accounts covered by the request.

Spain's request follows similar actions by the French and Dutch tax authorities.

Late last month, it was reported that France is seeking information on an additional 45,000 bank accounts thought to be held by French citizens with UBS, having already obtained information on almost 4,800 accounts.

Also in September, Switzerland's Supreme Court overturned the decision of a lower court that had prevented information on bank accounts held by Dutch citizens with UBS to be sent to the Netherlands tax authority.
