Several dozen Swiss banks black-listed by German Tax Authorities

The Basler Kantonalbank (BKB) has shaken the Swiss tax system in its very foundation. As the first domestic bank ever, they reached an agreement in the ongoing tax dispute with Germany. BKB paid approx. CHF 39 Million in fees. According to several sources, the bank was in a hurry to complete this settlement with the tax authorities of North Rhine-Westphalia. The basic principle still applies that the bank who closes off the fastest is making the very best deal.

Swiss banks under investigation

According to our sources, “several dozen Swiss banks” are still under investigation in Germany. This was also confirmed to BKB by German lawyers who are leading the case. Apparently, there are already more than 50 Swiss banks in the sights of investigators. Investigators, together with German law firms, are building a leading case against several Swiss banks. Many banks in Switzerland are very nervous now because no one exactly knows who is under active investigation and who is not. “We know that other banks have been contacted by the German authorities,” says Thomas Sutter from the Swiss Bankers Association upon request. But no one can predict an exact number.
